For the first time in the world, police
arrested a man for refusing to tweet. The 44-year-old American, James Roppo, has the honor to go down in history.
James Roppo represents the young pop singer Justin Bieber. It happened in one of the supermarkets in New York, where Justin was supposed to sign autographs. A rather large crowd of fans gathered there (mostly girls 11-14 years old and their parents, about 3000 people in total, according to police), and they behaved quite unbridledly, noisily and loudly, disturbing other visitors to the store. The supermarket security guard made the decision to cancel the event, not to let the musician to the fans and stop this outrage. Although the singer was not allowed, he continued to send
messages to the fans through Twitter, warming up the passion.
The police cut through the topic and asked James Roppo (vice-president of the record company Island Def Jam Records) to send another message to the crowd with a specific request to disperse. For this he was offered to use
Bieber ’s
twitter account . James refused and was placed in custody for refusing to cooperate with the police.
Now James Roppo faces a fine or even a criminal case, because the offense is serious. Police believe that by his inaction he has put the lives of people at risk.
