New versions of software from Microsoft

Last week, Microsoft introduced Excel Beta, specifically designed to run on supercomputers or powerful server clusters. According to representatives of the software giant, with their new software, the processing of tables, which previously took weeks, can be carried out within a few hours.

Microsoft made the announcement at a conference on supercomputers (SC09), held in Portland. It would be surprising if everything was limited to Excel: Microsoft also introduced a new version of Windows Server, specially designed for work on high-performance computing clusters.

Microsoft’s announcements can rightly be called symbolic: after the corporation managed to get into the highest echelons of supercomputer computing and for the first time in history take a position in TOP25, Redmond’s people can tick the “competition with Linux” column on the market of systems built by connecting a large number of ordinary servers.
