The visit of US Vice President Albert Gore to Portland gave food to talk that Linus Torvalds (if anyone does not know the creator of the Linux kernel) can be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in a couple of years.
The promoter, Keith Lofstrom, argues that Linus fully deserves this award because he is the creator of one of the largest international collective projects. Excerpt from the letter:
It inspired Ubuntu, One Laptop Per Child, and many other global projects. Linux by the computer space - by peaceful means!
If the nomination takes place, it may coincide with the 20th anniversary of the “birth” of the Linux kernel, which will come in 2011, or the 50th anniversary of the Linus Pauling Award, the Nobel Prize winner, after whom the creator of Linux was named.
