Lian Li PC-Q07 - the perfect mini-ITX package?

Recently, more and more I think about building a compact, silent and energy-efficient home server for storing files. As a basis for such a server, motherboards of the mini-ITX format with an integrated Atom processor are well suited - for distributing files through AFP / SMB and downloading torrents, its power is more than enough. The range of mini-ITX motherboards available in stores is constantly growing, so there is a choice.

But with high-quality buildings for them - the problem. All that I met on sale in Kiev, or too ugly, or too noisy, or too expensive. When I was thinking about which mITX package would fit my needs, my imagination drew a compact metal cube with high-quality finish and the ability to install a standard ATX power supply. It turns out that such a case exists and is called Lian Li PC-Q07.
')
Why is installing an ATX power supply so important? The fact is that miniature power supply units of SFX standard, which are usually installed in microcorps, are usually noisy. In addition, they are difficult to find on sale, which means that when a power supply fails (which is actually not uncommon), you will have to run around looking for a replacement. With Lian Li PC-Q07, there will certainly be no such problems: ATX power supplies in the stores are like dirt, among them you can choose very high quality and noiseless ones - for example, some Scythe.

PC-Q07 will appeal to those who want to build a miniature HTPC: you can install a standard 5-inch Blu-ray drive into it, while other mini-ITX “en masses” chassis are designed for installing expensive and short-lived notebook optical drives.

Like other products Lian Li, PC-Q07 is made of aluminum. I myself did not have time to hold it in my hands, but judging by the available photos and videos, it has an unusual design. Most cases have a “frame” structure (i.e., body panels are worn on a steel frame), but the PC-Q07 is made according to the “carrier chassis” principle: the frame is missing, the motherboard is mounted directly on the side wall of the case.

The hard disk is mounted on the bottom of the case and is attached to a special sled (3.5-inch disks) or screwed directly onto an aluminum panel (2.5-inch disks).

What are my flaws? In the first place - this is the regular installation of only one HDD. However, for HTPC this does not matter, but for a home server you can install a second hard disk instead of an optical drive in the 5-inch bay. You can also complain that Lian Li PC-Q07 is larger in size than other mini-ITX chassis, but this is a retribution for the possibility of installing an ATX power supply. Well, the price, traditionally for Lian Li, is quite high: in our latitudes, the PC-Q07 case without a power supply will cost about $ 100.

As a "dessert" I propose to watch the official video (it is also the assembly instructions):
