the phenomenon of Internet Explorer 9, office 2010 beta has been released, Silverlight 4 has broken Flash, each with a laptop
The second day of
the PDC conference passed. This day brought a lot of interesting announcements, news and technical details. First things first and foremost impressed. Many things have not yet been tested, something is known only from conference materials. But I will try to put everything together.
Internet Explorer 9
So, Microsoft shared their plans for IE9 and even showed it in action. In short, the news is:
- HTML 5 and CSS3 support
- CSS3 selectors are now 99% supported by test results.
- JavaScript speed is already at Firefox 3.5 level
- ACID3 compared to IE8 has grown and now = 32 points, they will cut further
- hardware acceleration of text display using Direct2D, demonstrations convincingly showed its advantage
- border-radius is now
Accelerated, with demanded chips and still instantly starting in Windows, IE9 can potentially significantly press FF. Hardware acceleration of graphics and text is a fat plus. Direct2D also offers significantly better font smoothing. But in general, there is nothing to look at. Assemblies are not available when they are available - unknown. Now there are
several videos about IE9 and
an article about improving it.

Office 2010
Office 2010 is a great product. I got it a little earlier and I already managed to test it from different sides. There are no minuses, but there are plenty of advantages, for example, the ability to save documents to the cloud out of the box. Changes weight in all. Need to watch. Now it is available to everyone.
Download it .
In addition, a client is available for Outlook; coordinating will connect Outlook with social networks, turning Outlook into one big communication platform.
Silverlight 4
The demonstration of Silverlight 4 caused a wild rush. It seems that everything that can only be imagined was immediately added to it. Enumeration of features is the topic of a separate article, here I will only write about what I remember:
- printer and print support
- support for microphone and video cameras, with simultaneous shader effects
- elevated privileges, full access to the system, access to COM objects
- HTML rendering in applications, from which you can render inside Flash and even break it into puzzles, as was done at one of the presentations
- support for scrolling out of the box and right-click menu
- all kinds of improvements in media, support for DRM-content in x264
- notifications, in one of the examples, the speaker connected the camera via USB and SL; the software determined this and offered to import the pictures, which he did well
- copying and pasting objects, such as tables from SL to Excel
- + much more will be in a separate article
Also, Scott Guthrie said that SL has spread to 45% of the desktop. In fact, the impression was that Silverlight would bury everything else, even WPF, with which, by the way, they became even more compatible. Now you can write anything on SL: from business applications to torrent clients. The future is the brightest and Adobe simply doesn’t have any significant advantage over Silverlight.
Microsoft would not be Microsoft if it had not thought about the developers. Together with Silverlight, a mountain has rolled out a mountain of materials, tools and distribution kits - download @ understand! Among them:
All of this is available for free download from
http://silverlight.net/getstarted/silverlight-4-beta/SharePoint 2010
When everyone ran away to download Silverlight materials, a speaker appeared on the scene with a report on SharePoint. SharePoint, who does not know, is an extremely successful commercial product. By profitability for Microsoft among server solutions, it comes in second place after Windows Server. A million licenses sold, 100,000 people in the world are developing applications on SharePoint.
With the release of SharePoint 2010, everything will change. It will be much more rosy. Disadvantages removed, the growth will be avalanche. There are no analogues to the system in terms of convenience, integration with Microsoft-stack, availability of development tools, integration with .NET-environment and other advantages. SharePoint is already a de facto standard, like Exchange, and there is also a significant improvement. Thousands of implementation companies are already raising money on the platform. The number of SharePoint developers is expected to grow to 1 million within two to three years after the release of SharePoint 2010.
Laptops for nothing
During the keynote,
an excellent laptop from Acer was presented and it was announced that all those present would receive the same for free. This awesome move blew up the audience with applause.
Results
Extremely successful event. PDC this year rolled out so many technologies that developers will have another year to understand everything, and users to master.
