Yesterday, November 18, 2009, a regular meeting of the Ural .NET Users Group was held . A guest was present at the meeting - Nikita Shamgunov, a developer from the Sql Server team. Nikita talked about a promising data processing technology in real-time StreamInsight and about working in the development team at Microsoft.

The second speaker was Stanislav Chernichkin , who spoke about innovations in ASP.NET MVC 2 and about some aspects of functional programming and LINQ.
Read more about the topics of reports under the cut.

Streaminsight

The first speaker, Nikita Shamgunov, works in the position of Senior Software Development Engineer in the SQL Server Engine Platform . Nikita read a report about StreamInsight at the Platform 2010 conference held recently in Moscow. He told us about CEP technology and its implementation in the form of StreamInsight. In which areas CEP is required and how to apply StreamInsight. Nikita talked about the internal structure of technologies and showed several examples of working with LINQ / C # and IObservable libraries.

Nikita’s second talk was devoted to the work of the Microsoft development team. This report was previously read at the MVP OpenDays event. The report described exactly how the process of forming the development teams at Microsoft is going on, how the working environment is organized and the relationships within various teams are built. We learned how and from where Microsoft is recruiting new specialists. Nikita told how work with students is going on and what kind of people are primarily interested in Microsoft.

After the presentations there were numerous questions to which Nikita gave interesting answers. In general, it was extremely interesting, even taking into account the fact that I already had the opportunity to listen to both reports. In an informal setting, Nikita told a little more and asked him about slightly more interesting things.

ASP.NET MVC 2

The second half of the meeting was led by Stanislav Chernichkin. He told about new features in ASP.NET MVC 2 , how to use them and what difficulties he encountered when working with them. Stanislav showed by example of code the use of areas, annotations of data and templates in MVC 2.

A separate part of Stanislav’s report was the topic of using LINQ. He told about some LINQ tricks from the field of functional programming and made analogies with Haskell. It was interesting.

At the end of the meeting, I spoke a little, talking about the new functionality that appeared in the just-released ASP.NET MVC 2 Beta compared to the previous version. My short presentation can be downloaded from here .
