Compaq Mini 110c Netbook Review

I started to look closely at netbooks from the beginning of last month. I needed the simplest, without fingerprint identification, beautiful drawings, etc., just a workhorse. The student’s main requirements are office, MathCad, ICQ, mail, Wi-Fi and a normal matte screen.

After a lot of shopping, I chose the Compaq Mini 110c.

Introduction

After reading and reviewing many reviews, this model seemed to me the most interesting, HP, a reputable manufacturer, used and used many of their products, the quality and reasonableness of which are pleasing.

Overview

Opening the box, the following picture appeared before my gaze - a netbook neatly packed between “softeners”, wrapped in plastic and a small black box with utility.

image

The standard package for budget netbooks: a netbook itself, a 3-cell battery, a power cable, a power adapter, several guides, a cloth for wiping the glossy side of the case.

image

The very glossy side, but the Energy Star sticker is completely out of place there.

image

The overall look, the touchpad turned out to be extremely comfortable and “responsive”, dull to the touch, dirt from hands will not stick to it, but you will have to get used to the side buttons of the touchpad.

image

The bottom panel, you can put 2GB of RAM with one bar, only one slot.

image

Right side, there are 2 USB-ports, VGA, card reader, input ethernet cable.

image

The left side, there is a Kensington lock, an input for the charger, a ventilation grill, another 1 USB port and an audio input.

image

The first power-up, the backlight of the netbook’s switches and Wi-Fi will shine quite brightly at night, and I don’t really like the design of the switches, I would prefer ordinary buttons above the keyboard.

image

Keyboard. Just it seemed to me convenient at first glance, the profile of the keys, according to the manufacturer, is only 8% less than the original keyboard. A slight bend of the keys helps to navigate blindly where the key ended.

Instead of a recovery partition on the HDD, we are invited to make backups through a program from Roxio.

Conclusion

I am satisfied with the purchase, there are some downsides but satisfied. I tested with Asus eeepc, Acer Aspire One, MSI Wind, but this netbook brought me some special pleasure from using :)

Summarize

+ Strict design

+ High-quality assembly

+ Comfortable keyboard

+ 3 USB ports

+ Keeps the battery pretty good (3 cells, holds ~ 2 and a half hours when playing CS 1.6 with minimal backlight)

+ Excellent matte screen with good backlight, fonts with ClearType do not look comfortable.

- Short charger cord, I barely reach the table

- Unsuccessful (unusual?) The location of the buttons on the touchpad, will have to relearn

- Glossy top panel, prints are left, not everyone wants to carry a cloth with them

- LED showing camera on blinding eyes

- the Wi-Fi on / off indicators are too noticeable in the dark

- Inconvenient (unusual?) Switches netbook \ Wi-Fi

- 3-cell battery, a little backlash
