IE6 - when is the end?

Here came the idea. Now the situation is that, according to statistics, many will continue to develop their projects for IE6. Many have refused his support at all. And many still put the usual warnings on the sites that the browser is outdated.

The result is some kind of porridge, which creates some inconvenience for IE6 users, when on some sites they see such warnings, on others they are fine, and on some resources the layout elements generally scatter in different directions. Whether to use warnings on your sites about an outdated browser is an eternal holivar of developers, there are ardent supporters, there are ardent opponents. As a result, with such a pace, this not very good browser will last approximately another six months, as everyone comforts themselves, and a year and a half. (this can be seen from the same LiveInternet statistics, where it can be seen that over several months, the share of IE6 fell only by a couple of percent)

I do not pretend to originality, and I don’t have time to do it now, so I’m posting an idea here: is it possible to disable support for IE6 on the side of internet / hosting providers? Unfortunately, in this area I am not particularly strong, so I have nothing to paint here, I simply suggested. This could include collecting signatures of developers, writing letters collectively to providers, etc.

Ideally, turning off IE6 (or rather blocking the browser by hosting and Internet providers) should occur simultaneously for all providers, in the end we get what the user will see on your project’s website see something like - “Sorry, your browser is outdated, update ”(well, of course, in a more beautiful, understandable form, as it is now done by many js-scripts), he will think -“ Oh, nafig ”, dial another address (even if a competitor) - and there is the same garbage. As a result, you have to upgrade, whether the user wants it or not.

So it turns out that disabling this browser will take a maximum of a couple of days, well, maybe more. Eternal holivar will stop, site development will take less time, infected computers will be less well, etc., this list can be supplemented for a long time, I think you should not explain.

Who has any thoughts, opinions? It is interesting to listen. Yes, the only thing I ask is that you don’t dilute holivar on the subject of development for IE6. I want to see real thoughts about blocking IE6 on the side of providers.

PS Of course, I understand that on the part of providers is a big step and that not all of them will agree at first. Therefore, your ideas about this are interesting, maybe we will find some solution?

Yes, I do not really write a lot on Habré, so tell me where you can move it :)
