What are waves and what are they for us

Here, I climbed today the first day on the waves. I have to say that they shared the invite with me and therefore I have no invites. From Google, more invites did not reach, although I requested somewhere in the spring and summer.

I would like to share my impressions and thoughts on what this is all about. Who does not know, we will talk about the new (still under development) service Google Wave

Let's get started
')
As stated in the available video presentations, GW is e-mail, rethought in a modern way. Namely, taking into account the experience that humanity has acquired, "communicating in the internet."

Why "wave". I drew the following model for myself. One should perceive oneself as a radio receiver (more precisely, a transceiver), and all incoming (and transmitted) information - as radio waves. Such a model quite logically falls on the GW functional and makes it easier to understand how it seems to me. For example, in order not to receive more updates on a particular wave, it simply makes a Mute - “I don’t want to listen”.

Functions. Each user can:
create a wave and assign participants ("transceivers") to the discussion. At the moment, the discussion is conducted in writing (after all, e-mail), but it is possible that in the future the communication channels will be supplemented by video and audio
add / exclude participants during the discussion
comment on the replica of any member with any word
see all changes made by all participants
see it all in real time! (a dubious feature, but still quite interesting), as participants write their comments in letters
add attachments to any comment as a regular email, including a google search query, google gadgets and google wave gadgets (among which, for example, google maps) and much more
play the discussion story, visually observing how it developed

It should also be noted that Google strongly welcomes writing applications for Wave. For this publishes wave API. In addition to gadgets, there is a class of applications for the wave, called robots or just bots. They can bring their own bursts into the wave and be active participants (this is how they differ from gadgets)

As a result, the wave begins to contain the entire history (log) of the discussion on a given topic. From idea to implementation. That is, unlike the usual e-mail, where all this would be scattered in dozens of messages, Google Wave allows you to keep it in one container - the wave.

All available functionality works fine, as expected. But glitches are present. A couple of times the service "caught myself" in error and offered to send feedback. And one more minus - it works so far very slowly. In general, for a service of this level and in this status (closed alpha / beta testing) it works fine. I would like to use it to the fullest, but few friends: o) Only googlewave accounts can communicate there
