Free cellular communication has begun!

Last week, the pan-European mobile virtual operator Blyk signed an agreement with Nokia Siemens Networks. The Finnish telecommunications company will build and host a cellular network, freeing the operator from the need to invest in infrastructure. Blyk subscribers will be young people aged 16 to 24 years.

Users will be able to make calls and send text messages without any fee. The project is planned to be financed by advertising: subscribers will regularly receive advertisements on their cell phones.

The commercial launch of the services of the virtual operator Blyk will first take place in the UK, and this will happen this summer. By the end of 2007, the company intends to enter the markets of other European countries.

Blyk was established in 2006 by Pekka Ala-Pietila, the former head of the Finnish concern Nokia, and Antti Orling. Operator offices today are based in Helsinki and London. Blyk executives claim that the project has no analogues in the world. However, a similar model of a virtual network focused exclusively on young people is already being developed in the USA.
