Yahoo opens Traffic Server
Yahoo opens the source for its Traffic Server cache and proxy server, which runs the world's largest mail hosting service, Yahoo Mail and other portal services. This application was purchased together with Inktomi in 2002 and subsequently was refined and improved many times within the company.
Traffic Server is an ideal solution for content caching and site maintenance under heavy load. According to Yahoo, it processes up to 30,000 requests per second, serves 30 billion web objects and pumps up to 400 TB of data per day through 100-150 standard servers. The aggregate audience of Yahoo sites is 600 million unique visits per month.
Traffic Server codes have already been sent to Apache Incubator .
