Intel Microservers

At the nearest server infrastructure forum , Intel intends to officially present a new standard for miniature servers designed specifically for web hosting.



In 8.75-inch unit fits 16 such microservers. They are placed vertically, and on the bottom edge of the board are attached connectors for 2.5-inch hard drives (three per board) and Ethernet.

Each worldserver has a quad-core processor 1.86 GHz (Lynnfield model from the Intel Nehalem line), which consumes 45 watts at its peak. At the beginning of next year, Intel plans to release a lightweight dual-core Clarkdale model with a peak consumption of 30 watts. In the minimum load mode, the entire microserver, together with the memory and the chipset, should be only 25 watts.
