Cerebral approach to project management

We present you a new service for managing media projects - Cerebro

Story

Already in 2005, when our team worked at Cinemateka , on the “Turkish Gambit” directed by Janik Fayziev, the need for a special management system became apparent to us.
The first guinea-pig was a regular forum (before it really was a wiki) with advanced options for appointing a responsible employee and controlling / planning the deadlines for the execution of the tasks set.
This was followed by the projects “Mongol” by director Sergei Bodrov Sr. and “1612” by Vladimir Khotinenko. Six months of work in the new system revealed the need for significant simplification of working with files in comparison with FTP exchange, as well as creating opportunities for users to give audio and visual comments to all types of files involved in the workflow, from a video clip to a regular office document. There should have been some torment by FTP exchanges and Photoshop-comments by users to breathe a sigh of relief :)

So, the concept of the necessary system was gradually formed. The team, represented by project manager Konstantin Kharitonov, chief programmer and architect Vladimir Barzionov, programmers Artyom Verbitsky (desktop client Cerebro) and Dmitry Samoylov (Mirada module) under the supervision of technical manager Ivan Ivanchik starts developing Cerebro - an integrated system for planning and managing projects. the fathers of the Cerebro system were films, “Europe-Asia”, directed by Ivan Dykhovichny and “Indigo” by Roman Prygunov.

About the system

In Spanish, Cerebro (correctly pronounced Cerebro) is the central nervous system of the brain. Supporting the vital activity of the project, the developed software complex performs the most important functions: resource management, ensuring the operational interaction of participants and the ability to quickly transfer files of any size. So, thanks to the built-in module Mirada (Spanish - view), the user has an image viewer that supports an extensive set of formats. It is a player of video files and audio recordings, and also contains a set of tools for reviewing, giving a unique opportunity, for example, to draw a brush over video files, create text and voice tags with reference to an image, visually mark comments on a single frame of a video, etc ... The publication of the review in Cerebro occurs automatically. The internal system Cargador (isp. - loader) is designed to transfer files without using services such as FTP-exchange, offers the possibility of automatic archiving, the option of using symbolic links to access local resources, performs independent search and download specified files from various sites on the network and much another.

So, the main advantages of Cerebro:
• Creating and maintaining a project structure of any complexity
• Comfortable work with remote access via the Internet
• Fast project budgeting, project bookkeeping
• Thoughtful user roles: client, person in company, supervisor, producer, administrator
• A special system of visual commenting on images, office documents and videos with drawing capabilities on top of the content, as well as voice recording and all commentator actions
• High system security: user authorization, fine-tuned access levels to specific project elements, etc.
• Detailed statistics on users of the system, detailed statistics on the project
• Own decentralized file sharing system, with support for automatic content download, built-in archiving
• Automatic creation of tabs for all kinds of files

Today, Cerebro is mainly used by companies to manage projects for creating visual effects and 3D animation. The constant growing number of users gives reason to believe that soon the system will be used in the development of video games, advertising production, Web and architectural design, etc. By the way, soon on our website, anyone can buy it on their credit card.

Our days

In early 2009, after successful implementation within Cinemateka, the decision was made to separate the Cerebro development team into an independent project.
The Cerebro system is used on the “Book of Masters” film project, the first Russian film commissioned by the Disney studio (“Walt Disney Company CIS”). Work on visual effects was supervised by Cinemateka entirely in Cerebro. The project also involved the company A-VFX, Noon.
Such major projects are also being prepared as Black Lightning by producer Timur Bekmambetov, supervised by Bazelevs Productions, Long Way Home, SKA Peterburg (full-length version of the famous Smesharikov), the animated film Belka and Arrow by the anima company CNF .

For more information, visit our website and blog cerebrohq.com/ru , right there in a few days you can try a free 30-day demo!

And, by the way, in the near future there will be a Web-version of Cerebro and a client application for the iPhone , both with the ability to work off-line.

In the near future, it will be possible to talk with us at the exhibitions “Igromir” (from 5–8 November, the 57th pavilion of the All-Russian Exhibition Center, stand D2-D6), “NATEXPO” (November 17-20, at the 75th pavilion of the All-Russia Exhibition Center, stand A25) and on CG Event ” (December 12-13 at the WTC, the stand is against the wall :)).

We will be extremely grateful for feedback on the service and will gladly try to answer any questions :)
