Recently, startups have been growing like mushrooms after rain. With each passing month, the competition is getting stronger. Created a year or two ago, and now large projects have already taken hold of a large part of the market and continue to develop, acquiring new services, information and functionality. The founders of new start-ups certainly want to repeat the feat of such (already) monsters like Digg, YouTube and so on. Some even try to clone already-promoted startups, hoping to rob them of some market share. Obviously, such attempts are doomed to failure. What, for example, will force you now to leave Habra on a newly created not yet functional and unknown portal? ;)
I want to talk about highly specialized services aimed at a small, clear audience.
About disadvantages The only thing that catches your eye is the small, limited specialization, market volume. Consider a simple example. There are over a billion users online. How many people out of this billion love Persian cats? Surely thousands (and maybe tens of thousands). Therefore, if you make a site about Persian cats, your audience is several thousand people. Is it not enough? For Google, yes. For a low-budget, or self-run startup, this is already a sufficient indicator.
Any topic that people in principle are interested in in real life will find its sufficient audience on the Internet.')
On the merits Let's try to imagine who is more committed to the service that is used: the user mail.ru, (Yandex - mail, gmail, etc.) or, say, the user of the only site on chromeleons in runet. Personally, for example, I have been using mail.ru for the eighth year and was not going to change it, because I was happy with everything. But after the recent server crashes / downfalls, I slowly started a gmail account. Let it be. Gmail will drop - go to yahoo, etc. But if I were a big fan of chameleons, I would forgive many of the blunders on the only site in runet.
Specialized startups have a more loyal and dedicated audience.About competition As the volume of the market of a targeted startup is substantially small, the number of potential competitors in it is proportionally smaller. To get the initial advantage - you need to be first in the niche. One fact of employment of a niche with a market of 2-3 thousand people will scare away most potential competitors. The rest is a matter of direct hands and a lively mind. In addition, corporations such as Google, Yahoo, AOL and others are unlikely to consider a niche of several thousand people worthy of research. Consequently, the likelihood that your small business will be crushed by monsters is significantly lower.
In narrowly focused startups there is less competition.Taking up a small niche first, you get a distinct advantage. And finally, according to the results of my
survey , many do not start a startup for two reasons - there is no team and no money.
You can start a small startup with a small budget, a team of two or three people, or even yourself.Waiting for your opinions.
