ICANN approved the introduction of non-Latin domain names

At its session in Seoul, the international organization ICANN, which regulates issues related to domain names, IP addresses and other aspects of the Internet, approved the registration of domain names in Hebrew, Hindi, Korean and other languages ​​whose alphabet is not based on the Latin alphabet. Reception of applications for new domain names will begin on November 16.

It is assumed that the majority of applications will be for Chinese and Arabic domain names. Internet addresses in other languages ​​should appear by mid-2010.

Cyrillic domain names should appear in Russia. RF. According to the latest data, the launch schedule of the domain of the Russian Federation, presented at the Russian Internet Week, looks like this:

October 30, 2009 - at the close of the 36th ICANN International Conference in Seoul, the Fast Track procedure will be approved, which will allow for the rapid introduction of a limited number of two-letter multilingual top-level domains (IDN ccTLD);

November 4, 2009 - the beginning of the accreditation of registrars in the domain. RF; November 25, 2009 - March 25, 2010 - the stage of priority registration in the domain of the Russian Federation for government agencies and trademark owners;

December 1, 2009 - February 1, 2010 - the process of delegation of the domain. RF;

April 8, 2010 - completion of the priority registration period; April 20 - June 15, 2010 - domain name auction in the zone. RF;

July 2010 - the beginning of the open registration of names in the domain of the Russian Federation at standard prices.
