The Metro business model seems to be really dying.

My assumption about the death of the business model "Metro" is confirmed. Probably next month, London Lite will close , using this model. In London, only Metro and Evening Standard will work on this scheme now.
Perhaps they will not sweet. On the one hand, the market segment is being cleared, competition is falling, the chances of survival are growing. On the other hand, if the scheme does not demonstrate viability in a crisis, then why switch to it, as the Evening Standard did recently? What is management planning? Want to occupy this niche, working at a loss and waiting until Metro dies? Cleverly. But is there enough money for Lebedev?
Here another aspect is important. In fact, the “metro” model is a very correct, ideal, honest model. This is how almost all the newspapers in the world should work from the very beginning. That is, no subscriptions, no sales - the newspaper is distributed free of charge, all expenses are covered by advertising. And what are we seeing now? And we are seeing that ideal models — read, an honest press — can only be afforded by a rich society that exists in favorable economic conditions. We also observe that ideal circuits work only in ideal conditions. So do not expect elegant solutions. Use mixed models.
