After a two-hour debate, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously
voted to transfer the entire municipal postal system to the Gmail service. The tender for mail outsourcing was announced a year ago, and Google managed to win it from several competitors, including Microsoft.
Thus, 30,000 postal addresses of municipal workers (police, city hall, fire service, etc.) will now go to Google. The migration procedure will last until June 2010, including the testing period, the amount of the contract is $ 7.25 million.
Such a long two-hour debate due to the fact that the city authorities wanted to make sure that hosting Google will save taxpayers money, and will also be able to ensure maximum security of the Los Angeles police documents.

Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States, many smaller cities considered this tender as an example. Therefore, Microsoft was actively lobbying its interests here and even sent several top managers and lawyers to Los Angeles. However, they failed to disrupt the deal. According to experts, other cities across the country will now wish to switch to Gmail.
