Emulation Dandy. Nestopia with support for new ZNS extension (Zipped NES)

Does nothing remind you of this screenshot? I doubt it. Chinese friends have tried their best - I am sure that most of you are now recalling your first cartridge for Dandy . On the cartridge were a few simple games that pall on the first day. But you do remember this menu with beautiful views on every page, pleasant music and even a small romantic plot? Yes, damn it, you remember! In the Dandy, probably every child in this country played. We sat for hours behind the TV screens, changed the cartridges one by one, and it didn’t matter to us that this was some kind of pirated Japanese NES clone, and even more wondering why all our copyrights were erased in games on our cartridges. Did anyone then understand what it is? =)
Today, there is absolutely no need to buy this console to remember everything and re-go through Super Mario or Contra. There is an army of emulators for every taste and color, dumps of almost all games have long been available on the network. Every self-respecting emulator is able to open games directly from the archives. This is very convenient, because most often the dumps of games are distributed in a compressed form. Only here there is one trouble - linking the .zip extension directly to the program is stupid enough, but I would like to launch games from the archives with one click. Therefore, I suggest using the ZNS (Zipped NES) extension for NES compressed files.

In my opinion the best NES emulator is Nestopia . The author tries to support all new cartridge dumps. There is support for zip and 7z archives. It remains the case for small - to add a new extension to the program.


After a little editing of the settings dialog and the open file window, the program learned how to work well with ZNS files. Now you can safely store all the dumps of games in zip or 7z archives, just by changing their extension. You can, of course, store .nes files without compression, but by compressing them we do not lose anything, but we save space on the hard disk :)
