Amazon launches relational database service (Amazon RDS)

We are pleased to introduce Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) public beta, a new web service that makes it easier to install, operate and scale relational databases in the cloud. Amazon RDS provides you with everything you need to work with the MySQL database and at the same time takes control of the administration and provides a cheap service on the AWS cloud.

Amazon RDS provides a full-featured MySQL database, i.e. Applications and utilities that you use to work with existing MySQL databases will work without changes. The service automatically handles common administrative tasks such as installation, upgrade, and backup. You also have the ability to flexibly scale computing resources and volume using a simple API. Like all AWS services, Amazon RDS is easy to implement and maintain. Here are the main points about Amazon RDS:

• Ease of implementation - the ability to quickly create a ready-to-use database using a simple API.
• Management - Amazon RDS takes on patch management and backup tasks.
• Compatibility - all existing applications for working with MySQL databases will work.
• Scalability - using a simple API, you can scale the database under the load of your application.
• Reliability - Amazon RDS uses highly reliable Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Amazon RDS also provides automated backup.
• Price - You pay a very low price only for the resources you use. You do not have to sign lengthy agreements and commitments to using Amazon RDS.
