Donald Knut Home Page

Yesterday’s Siddthartha comment to my topic about the Dijkstra archive suggested me to continue the topic of great programmers and to tell about the home page of Donald Knuth .

Donald E. Knut (Donald Ervin Knuth) - Professor Emeritus at Stanford University, author of the editor, or rather, the computer layout system TeX .
The main business of Knut's life is his fundamental encyclopedia of algorithms, The Art of Computer Programming . Twenty years ago, Knut ceased active teaching and devoted himself entirely to the work on this book.
In its review of the most outstanding scientific books of the 20th century , American Scientist magazine included Knut's book among the 12 most outstanding monographs in exact sciences, along with the books The Meaning of Relativity by Albert Einstein, The Foundations of Mathematics by Russell and Whitehead, and Cybernetics by Norbert Wiener , "Quantum mechanics" by Paul Dirac.
At present, three volumes have been published (all three have been translated into Russian) and work is underway on the fourth ("Combinatorial algorithms"). Approximately two issues (fascicles) of materials prepared by the Whip 4 volumes containing approximately 128 pages are published twice a year. .
Knut actively uses the help of the programming and mathematical community in his work on the book, inviting everyone to participate in the work on the book, primarily in the search for errors. He even pays out to those who find a mistake in his book, the amount of $ 2.56 (one hex).
Whip basically does not use e-mail. He can only write to the usual mailing address. Details are here .
On Knut’s home page you can find a complete list of his books, lists of known errors in them, electronic versions of Knut’s articles, and much more.
