I noticed that when I first met certain sites, there was an illusion of exaggerating the amount of information.
What it is?When we arrive at a previously unknown site, at the beginning (from several hours to several days) it seems that there is a huge amount of information there, and it seems that the new information comes instantly.
Why do I say "when are we ..."?I shared the idea with some friends, everyone said that they also have such an illusion. The conclusion has been drawn that the phenomenon is peculiar to most people.
For example HabrahabrSuch an illusion arose when meeting with Habrahabr. Now I see that the flow of information is not so fast, and its amount is less than it seemed at the beginning.

Another prime examplephoto site At first it seems that the replenishment of photos is as fast as the score “1-2-3 -...- 20! I'm going to look! ” And although new photos appear really fast, after a few days you are convinced that their influx is still slower than it seemed.
Why?The question arose: for which sites such a law applies? What on the site contributes to the illusion?
1. In my opinion the most important element: the column with the display of content and something new, for example, new comments, new articles, photos. The effect is enhanced not only by the number of columns, but also by their behavior. It is important to update these columns.
2. Clean, quiet colors with low contrast, strict orderliness of the design - all this reduces the effect, "noise" - increase.
3. The number of screens on which the main page fits. Mail.ru occupies two medium screens, and compared to Yandex, which fits on one, it looks much more informational.
4. The illusion is less for sites with a fixed width. Compare MSN.com and Yahoo.
5. Illusion is common to almost all communities and news sites.
Here I tried to highlight the most important causes of the illusion. It would be just great if you connected and helped replenish the list.
