October 23, 2009 - Oslo, NorwayMost recently, the first beta version of Opera 10.10, which includes a new technology - Opera Unite. Reviews after the first days of public testing showed a great interest of users to this development, but most of the questions were asked by developers who praised the novelty. Well, the company Opera Software thanks everyone for their interest, but, as they say, thank you in your pocket. Therefore, we decided to introduce a new weekly prize - for the best Unite application of the week. Thus, all those interested in new technology and exploring the source code (open, by the way, under the BSD license) for their utilitarian purposes (or simply out of curiosity, which is also not a fault, as we know), have the opportunity not only to create Unite-applications, but also receive for your hobby quite tangible valuable gifts. So, first things first.
To participate in the competition, you must first be registered on the My Opera portal. If someone has not done this yet - do not despair: registration takes a few minutes and costs absolutely nothing financially. By the way, if you have not created an account on My Opera, but are using synchronization through Opera Link, then the login and password from this service will do.
')
Next, create your Unite-application and publish it on the portal My Opera, following these instructions:
dev.opera.com/articles/view/opera-unite-developer-primer-revisitedunite.opera.com/developThe winner will be chosen weekly, with the official deadline for accepting applications for the current week - 12:00 Moscow time every Friday. Further, the employees of Opera Software will conduct an expert evaluation, and on Monday of the next week the next weekly winner will be announced.
Now, in fact, the main thing: what Opera marks the best (within one week) developers. As a prize, a gift certificate will be provided, which allows you to purchase in one of the online retail outlets what you especially want to please yourself. The amount of the gift certificate should allow you to get something comparable in value to the Nintendo Wii or a fashionable mobile phone, but it will not exceed the size of the annual gross income of the Republic of Burkina Faso after deducting all payments to the IMF, but excluding foreign trade, per capita.
Immediately, we note that not all applications will be encouraged, but only those that are really easy to use, with a clear functional purpose, created in compliance with current web standards and, of course, have a fairly decently designed design. There are also some signs that your application will not be able to compete for a prize for its author - these include errors in the code, the application’s voracity with respect to computer resources, an ugly code (well, you know what it looks like), and also Your code is actually not yours at all, but a completely different person, “not from our area”, and it violates the copyright of this other programmer.
In general - go ahead, you have a chance to make yourself a gift for the New Year. More information about the competition can be found in the relevant English-language
article of the official blog .
