ColdFusion in Russia?

Recently, actively engaged in the study of Adobe ColdFusion . To those who first hear this name: ColdFusion is an interpreted scripting programming language created for generating HTML on a web server and working with databases ( wiki ). I myself drew attention to ColdFusion somewhere in the year 2002, when functionality for working with it appeared in Dreamweaver. But then there wasn’t much benefit from CF for me - the main criteria in choosing development tools were prevalence and gratuity, which in general is quite logical for web applications, so I forgot about CF successfully. And the “features and benefits” of using CF at the time was somehow not inspiring.

Since then, much has changed. First, of course, ColdFusion itself has become much more serious and more convenient, a development environment has appeared. Secondly, Adobe presented us with Flex, the fourth version of which simply elegantly interacts with ColdFusion. And thirdly, my personal attitude to the development process has changed: I started to value my time much more - I damn sorry for the time spent on solving primitive tasks like data verification or CRUD, which make this process using ORM solutions at the language level almost automatic.

So far, I have a very positive impression of the speed of implementation of the planned things on ColdFusion. You can even say this: I admire ColdFusion.

I am sure that in my next Intraweb-project I will use ColdFusion 9, because the platform’s ideology can only be understood and understood through all the stages of the life cycle of a product built on it - design, implementation, implementation and support. Of course, it’s not the easiest way to gain knowledge and experience - it’s usually much easier to get somewhere in an office in a team with experienced gurus with a powerful project. But not in the case of CF - this is exactly what motivated me to write a post.

Conclusion

Apparently in Russia, ColdFusion is not needed by anyone except single developers interested in technologies from Adobe. The main reasons for this are the money that needs to be paid (by the way, very funny - only $ 1,300) and the lack of developers (I never managed to find the Russian community) who could promote this platform in Russia.

The search for references to ColdFusion looks awesome on Habré’s most IT-based rootkit: the latest top tag with ColdFusion was written on April 20, 2009, and it was a survey of ColdFusion users ’opinions : almost 53% don’t know what it is, and 43% consider CF dead than dead. Another is called “Ten Endangered IT Professions”. No one even posted the news about the release of the 9th version of CF, which in comparison with the previous one is perceived as Core2Duo next to the Pentium MMX.

What to do?

I offer two options:
Option number 1 (default). To score and forget about this post. And do not clog your head with unnecessary nonsense.
Option number 2. See at least for general development. The easiest and most pleasant way is to watch a video course on the basics of CF9 (either lynda.com or torrents.ru). I am sure that those who work in the field of web development, and especially RIA, will like it.
