It so happened that from the very beginning I used the mozilla-line of Internet browsers. My first OS, Koya had a graphical interface, was FreeBSD, for which I did not even know other graphical browsers, except for the netscape communicator. Then there were Opera 6, Mozilla 0.9, Mozilla 1.0, Seamonkey 1, Firefox 1, Opera 8, Firefox 1.5, Opera 9, Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 (a1, a2, a3, a5). Pretty rich experience, I suppose.
The current Firefox 2.0.0.3 browser is quite comfortable, noticeably losing the interface speed to the opera, more than playing out its functionality.
Actually, about the functional. Judging by the page http://firefox.niksite.ru/firefox-config.html , about 30 and extensions are currently activated, the most interesting of which I found from the blogs of happy users. Why break the chain - I will describe, perhaps, them and me.
Greasemonkey is a powerful extension that allows you to embed JavaScript in your pages, a rather large collection of which lives on http://userscripts.org/ . I think the most helpful are:
Stylish is one of the most useful extensions, as greasemonkey adds javascript to the pages, so this extension adds its CSS to the pages (which, by the way, affects not only the pages, but also the entire browser as a whole). These styles nest is obtained, which is logical, on http://userstyles.org/ . The following styles turned out to be the most useful for me:
Adblock Plus - filters ads, which copes very successfully. Able to update their databases from external sources, and the addition of Element Hiding Helper to this extension, allows you to filter ads not only by the criterion picture / script / something else from this or that address, but also by individual DOM elements.
FxIF - shows EXIF infu in the properties of those pictures where it is present
Mouse Gestures - if you already use the mouse, then the full; transition Forward / Backward using the mouse otherwise than LMB-> RMB / RMB-> LMB I already can not imagine
NoScript - somewhat speeds up the browser by cutting off unnecessary scripts
OpenSearchFox - allows you to add a search field from any page to the browser search field; now, in order to find an art book on lib.aldebaran.ru, I don’t need to load this site, look for the input field, press submit; instead, press Ctrl + K, Alt + Down, position on lib.aldebaran.ru (by pressing the first letter once - 'l') and enter the search word
Organize Search Engines - adds subfolders to the above drop-down menu of search engines
Personal Menu - I do not like wasting screen space; since the File, Edit, View, and so on panel is unnecessary for me, I extended this extension into one single menu item with this extension, placing it next to the tabs
Remove It Permanently - allows you to remove any element from the pages of the site by the XPath element
Russian hot keys bugfix - without this extension, the main keyboard combinations in linux stop working in the Russian layout
Save Image in Folder - Allows you to easily save images to selected folders. It is especially convenient to save images to a selected folder by double clicking on it (without the appearance of any menu).
ScrapBook - Another preservation tool for offline viewing, but on the whole page, with styles, scripts, graphics, perhaps - at several levels deep into the links; all saved full-text indexed, of course structured; really convenient expansion
Tab Mix Plus - everything you wanted to do with tabs and a little more; I personally use only tricky options for opening / closing tabs - new ones are opened directly to the right of the current one, when closing, it switches to the right one, if it was opened from the left, and to the left one, if there are no such right ones anymore
Web Search Pro - search by dragging the selected word onto page sectors (and not into a special search field), however, it’s convenient
Russian / English spell dictionary - check English and Russian spelling in input fields; with the letter .
NextPlease - go to the next / previous page in the forums and search engines using the same keyboard combination. I have this Ctrl + Right / Left
MR Tech Local Install - now extensions can be installed from a local disk, and in addition there is a wonderful “make compatible” item for which you can install extensions even if they were not originally designed to work in this release of FireFox
MR Tech Likn Wrapper - now unnecessarily long words will not cause horizontal scrolling, even if these words are links
Locationbar² - divides the address field into sublinks according to slashes, sometimes it is really convenient to navigate through subsections of the site
Firebug is a terrific web-builder extension; allows you to change HTML / JS / CSS code on the fly with the ability to conveniently position one’s code (hover the mouse over the desired element in the browser and then - below - see the HTML and CSS associated with this code)
Snap Links - allows you to select several links at a time in order to open them in background tabs. Sometimes it is very convenient.
