Highly specialized browser :)

I want to introduce the beta version of our product Dictionary Browser - software for translators and not only. The program facilitates the use of online dictionaries.

The story began with the fact that in our company once again put things in order with the licensed software, and the list of installed programs on our PCs has decreased dramatically. We work in a software company with Americans, and programs such as Abbyy Lingvo and Multitran are very useful to us, and they are in no hurry to buy licenses for them. Thus, the online dictionaries of Abbyy Lingvo, Multitran and Google, as well as freely distributed desktop translators such as StarDict and others, have become an alternative to us. But, due to habit, user-friendly interface and the size of the dictionary base, the online dictionaries have become familiar. Therefore, we decided to write for ourselves a user-friendly interface that allows you not to go to the sites each time and not to enter the same words in different online dictionaries, as well as save traffic (weekly traffic in our company is also limited).

By pressing the hot keys (Ctrl + C + C), the program connects to the well-known online dictionaries ( Abbyy Lingvo, Multitran , Google dictionary - the list will be expanded) and extracts the translation.
')

Update:
We will release fixpack with taking into account the bugs found. It will be ready in about a week.

Update 2 Some in the comments promised to write an analogue in 5 hours.
Therefore, if someone makes a better version in a week, we will make the program free for users of the USSR (http://habrahabr.ru/blogs/i_am_advertising/72856/#comment_2092478)

The user saves traffic and wins in speed, as Dictionary Browser does not upload advertisements and pictures into the window, but extracts only the most useful. The program acts as a mobile browser that filters content. Highly specialized browser.

Working with the program looks like this: by pressing the Ctrl + C + C keys, a window with the translation is called.
The tabs with the translation appear as the results are received from the sites (usually less than a second), the very first result appears on the left. As practice shows, Abbyy Lingvo and Google work stably, and Multitran is sometimes ahead of them, and sometimes appears at the very end.

In the settings, the user can select “Short Translation” and thereby strengthen the filtering. Only general meanings of words without additional meanings (of which there are many) will be displayed.

So:

1 It is not necessary to open online dictionaries in a regular browser. You need to select a word and press Ctrl + C + C or click the mouse on the tray icon. A window will appear with the translation.
2 The tabs will display translations from different dictionaries and the boot process. As practice shows, the program gives out the translation faster than if the user entered the word manually and waited for the translation in the browser. This is because we do not load pictures and advertising.
3 Now the program has three dictionaries: Abbyy Lingvo (the part that is available online - the universal dictionary), Multitran (a very complete and detailed dictionary with specialized terms) and Google. All of them are displayed on adjacent tabs of one window.
4 The user can select only one dictionary (and not wait for the others to load) or several (and compare translations). Translations from Russian into foreign and back are available in Abbyy Lingvo and Multitran for many languages. In the Google-dictionary English specialization.
5 Now the program is primarily useful for Russian-speaking and English-speaking users; we want to make a globular product out of it, and give the keys to volunteer testers for free within the former USSR who will find at least one bug.

The program window appears by pressing the hot keys and disappears when you click outside the window (and with any loss of input focus). If you only need one specific dictionary, then you can only specify it in the settings.

We have plans:

Further expansion of the list of sites.
Caching of the last translated words.
Connecting free dictionaries in .XDXF format, with which you can work offline.

In development, we used Java for the graphical interface and C ++ for intercepting keys. We hope the program is convenient. Some say that Java is difficult to create a beautiful interface, but, in my opinion, the program turned out pretty. I would like to know your opinion on the program and, perhaps, some tips or “rakes” that can be stepped on while promoting a wide-ball products.

PS
A version with JRE6 (22MB) and without JRE6 (3MB) is available for download.
