Google will open an online store

Google has announced that in the first half of 2010 it is planned to launch an online store of electronic books Google Editions.

As part of the new project, users will be provided with an “assortment” of more than half a million publications in electronic format, according to Reuters, according to Tom Tervey, Google’s director of strategic partnership. About their plans, Google has told at the Frankfurt Fair.

Users will be able to purchase books directly on Google Editions, or through partner stores such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Google will take over the storage of files of books and ensuring their search indexing.

It is assumed that Google will work with publishers with whom it has already had experience working with other projects, including Google Book Search. When selling books directly through the Google Editions store, the latter will get 37 percent of revenue, while publishers - 63 percent. When sold through affiliate online stores, the publisher will receive 45 percent, and the seller will be entitled to rely on most of the remaining 55 percent.
