Estonia proceeds to practical actions to transfer the mass grave of Soviet soldiers and dismantle the monument to the Soldier-Liberator.
On 18 April, the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Yaak Aviksoo, issued an order “On the organization of excavations and identification of remains at a war grave”. Information appeared in the media that all information and plans concerning the transfer of the mass grave and the dismantling of the monument to the Soldier-Liberator are classified. On April 19, Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip stated that Tallinn does not seek to classify these facts. In addition, according to the prime minister, on May 9 the territory around the Bronze Soldier will be closed, “regardless of whether there will be work to identify the remains of soldiers or not.”
At the same time, the Russian delegation to PACE initiated a draft resolution condemning the intentions of the Estonian authorities to demolish the monument.
