At the awarding of the MTV 2007 Film Awards, renowned director Vladimir Menshov refused to present the prize in the nomination “Best Film” to the film “Bastards”.
“I will not present this award to a film that shames my country. Let this prize be presented by Pamela Andersen, ”said Menshov, throwing an envelope with the result of the vote onto the stage.

The film "Bastards" was released under the slogan "Neither love, nor longing, nor pity." It was shot by director Alexander Atanesyan on the script of Vladimir Kunin. The plot of the film is based on the fictional events of the Second World War.
The picture takes place in a training camp, which is located in the snowy mountains of Kazakhstan. From juvenile delinquents, from “bastards”, according to the secret directive of the Soviet command of 1943, they are preparing a special group for throwing to the Germans. Teachers, including the camp commander, were selected from the prisoners of the Stalin camps.
In connection with the release of the film “Bastards” on the country's screens, the FSB received indignant appeals from media representatives and veterans about the discrepancy between the plot of the film and historical reality.
