In addition to the standard metadata search and surrounding text, Blinkx uses a unique speech recognition technology. For each indexed video, Blinkx extracts audio information from it as a stream of phonemes. The speech recognition system creates a stream of words from this stream of phonemes, taking into account which words may arise in this context. As a result, an index of words used in the search is created.
On April 18, Blinkx launched the Blinkx Remote TV search subsystem. The user simply enters the name of the program or show into the search bar and gets reasonably ordered (full versions preceded by short episodes) a list of videos available on the Internet.
