On Friday, October 9, the 44th Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to US President Barack Obama. The laureate received an award with the phrase “for the tremendous efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation among nations.”
For the US President, the award was a surprise, as he confessed to the press in the Rose Garden of the White House.
“Today I had an unexpectedly early rise,” the president complained, not without a share of humor.
"I do not consider the Nobel Peace Prize as recognition of my own merits, it is rather recognition of those goals that were defined for the United States and the whole world."
The head of the American state stressed that he perceives the Nobel Peace Prize as a “call to action”.
At the end of the speech, Barack Obama called on all nations to confront the challenges of the 21st century.

Let me remind you that one of the Obama election campaign items was the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and the resumption of diplomatic relations with Iran, the silence with which lasted 30 years.

Obama has promised that he will send $ 1.5 million to charity. For exactly which projects these funds will be transferred, the White House did not specify.
