On October 7, 2009, the Debian development team announced that the upcoming release of the distribution package, code-named Squeeze, will be released with a modified FreeBSD kernel for x86 & x86-64 architectures. The team motivated its decision to include the kFreeBSD port in the official desire to provide a wider choice of cores than it is now.
