Statistics collected for two and a half years on ten Google servers, showed that the number of errors in RAM is much higher than previously thought. On average, each DIMM module accounts for 3751 errors per year. If the ECC technology is not implemented in the chip, then these errors still remain uncorrected.
This is the first such a large-scale and complete study of the reliability of RAM used in standard PCs. Modules of different manufacturers and different types (DDR1, DDR2, FB-DIMM) were checked.

As it turned out, the number of errors depends little on the system temperature and on the DIMM brand, but it depends on the motherboard manufacturer. Full results see here .
