The new version of the mobile browser Bolt Browser has been released.
A few months ago, when the project was only announced, it could not be perceived otherwise than another attempt by an unknown company to force the giants to make room.Doomed to failure, of course. But there are no rules without exceptions, and today, contrary to all pessimistic expectations, when the project lost its “beta” status, it can be stated that the new player has every chance to press opponents.
Bolt is a browser for J2ME-compatible devices that works according to a scheme that has already become familiar with Opera Mini - pages are loaded and processed not by the application, but on the server side owned by the company producing the browser.
The developers emphasize that Bolt is designed for traveling on the network in a "desktop-style", that is, the style of displaying the page and its behavior when accessing from a mobile will not differ significantly from the usual. For rendering, the WebKit engine is used - this allows us to hope that even sites built according to the latest web standards will be displayed correctly. It also supports streaming video and audio. ')
Comparing the old “beta” and the new version 1.5, we can say with confidence: the developers have done a lot of work, the application works stably, and even now offers much more features than we could have dreamed of getting simple phones or Opera Mini from the built-in browsers.
If Opera Mini loses a significant part of the market, it will be its own fault - it’s impossible to ignore the simplest wishes of users for so many years, for example, the ability to select and copy text from pages. Bolt knows how to do it, and Opera, I'm sure, will learn only under the direct threat of losing users.
