IBM has released a competitor Google Apps

Actually, the news a few days already, but something did not pass on Habré. I was interested not so much in the product, as in the price offers from Google, Microsoft and IBM, and in general the topic of mail as SaaS in Russia - is there a market for this, or are these foreign toys. Has anyone here seen a live business user of google apps?

IBM beats Google at the cost of a new web-based email service for business
No special bells and whistles for $ 36 per user per year

IBM has released a basic web-based email system that is business-oriented and has a lower cost compared to the popular Google offering.
The cost of the LotusLive iNotes service starts at $ 36 per year per user, compared to an annual subscription of $ 50 per employee, which Google requests for its service with broader functionality.

LotusLive iNotes includes calendar and contact management features and offers 1GB per user; If necessary, customers can additionally purchase 100GB. Google’s rival offer starts at 25GB and includes a set of web-based office functionality, as well as tools for building a corporate intranet.

IBM explains the lightweight functionality by the fact that the service is designed for those employees who do not use most of the features of the current SaaS offerings and mainly need access to email. Perhaps IBM’s idea of a typical user of such services is not far from the truth.

IBM also relies on its reputation as a reliable provider of enterprise software and services. The recent upsurge of the widely discussed interruptions in Google’s work is playing into the hands of IBM marketers, emphasizing the company's ongoing statements about “proven reliability” in a favorable light to the blue giant. However, Google doesn’t use home-made toys to support Gmail, and the web-based software delivery model cannot by nature guarantee 100% uptime. So current IBM claims may turn against it later.

IBM should also be careful not to undermine its business with a similar product, LotusLive Notes, which is installed on computers and costs from $ 108 annually. The LotusLive iNotes offer also competes with Microsoft's web package, which costs about $ 120 annually.

The new IBM service is priced at $ 3 per month when paid for a year, or $ 3.75 for monthly payments. IBM also offers a free 30-day demo period to evaluate the system.
