Robot with human anatomy

You have more in common with this robot than with any other robot - it was designed based on your anatomy.

Ordinary humanoid robots may look like humans, but the work of their synthetic tissues is radically different from our anatomy. A team with people from five European countries says that this is what makes it difficult to create robots that can move like us.

The project " Eccerobot " was created to copy the process of communication of human bones, muscles and tendons, as well as their interaction and work. Plastic bones replicate biological forms and move on cords that are strong as tendons, while elastic cords mimic the work of muscles.

Completely copying human anatomy is of course a rather difficult task, because even simple human actions, like raising an arm, include a complex series of movements of a huge number of bones, muscles and tendons of a robot. However, the team is confident that solving such problems will enable the construction of a machine that interacts with the environment like a human being.

“We want to translate these ideas into a new kind of ' anthropomimic robot ' that can interact with the world in ways similar to human ones,” said project leader Owen Holland of the University of Sessex, United Kingdom.

The team also intends to endow the robot with artificial intelligence similar to human.

The Holland Sessex team has joined the project with researchers from the Technical University of Munich , Germany; University of Zurich , Switzerland; University of Belgrade , Serbia; and the French group " The Robot Studio ".
