The first electromagnetic interstellar message was sent on November 16, 1974 using the Arecibo Observatory's radar telescope with an antenna of 305 meters in diameter and a 500-kilowatt transmitter. Message duration was only 3 minutes. During this time, 1679 bits of information were transmitted. This number, being the product of two simple factors, indicates that the two-dimensional image 23 by 73 pixels is encoded in the message.
In 1679 bits of the message of Arecibo, Frank Drake and Karl Sagan tried to put as much information as possible.

The first block (red) sets the rules for writing numbers (from 1 to 10) in the binary number system.
The second (orange) lists the numbers of the elements on which life on Earth is based: hydrogen (1), carbon (6), nitrogen (7), oxygen (8), and phosphorus (15).
The third block (yellow) describes the composition of the DNA molecule: the deoxyribose (C5OH7) and phosphate (PO4) frameworks that form it alternate in the two edges of the columns, and the chemical formulas of four nucleotides are given in the middle: adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine, encoding genetic information. Formulas are written by numerical coefficients in the same order as the “elements of life” in the second block. For example, deoxyribose is encoded as 7-5-0-1-0, which means 7 atoms of hydrogen, 5 - carbon and 1 - oxygen.
The fourth block (green) is the DNA helix, and in the middle, the number of nucleotides in the human DNA is 4 294 441 822 (now we know that there are about 3 billion of them).
The fifth block (blue) carries information about people: on the left, the average person’s height is 14 (1.76 meters in units of the message wavelength - 12.6 centimeters), and on the right is the population of the Earth in 1974 - 4,292,853,750.
The sixth block (blue) - Solar system with nine planets. The earth is shifted upwards and is under the person from the previous block, indicating our habitat. The purple block represents the plate of the radar telescope that sent the message, and at the very bottom in the center its diameter is indicated - 2430 (306 meters in wavelength units).
Frank Drake on trial showed a simplified prototype of this message to other scientists. Karl Sagan deciphered it almost completely. On the other successes of reliable information is not preserved.
And here is the message itselfUpd.
