ICQ 6

I haven’t set native ICQ clients for a long time. You have to agree that putting your own one is stupid enough when you have Miranda (a buggy and disgusting QIP with a bunch of garbage features is not taken into account). So: putting ICQ 6, you can feel nostalgia.

The English version (there is no Russian yet) does not suffer from the imposition of rambler mail - and this is perhaps the main plus of the official client. Although welcome-screen, as before, produces content from the Rambler; however, sending sms is also provided by this company. (But for sms, I am impressed by Skype .)

The sounds have been updated: when a contact appears online, a kind of rattle is heard instead of the traditional “knocking on the door”, and the already familiar voice notifies of the arrival of a new message, but it seems that it is heard from a sewer pipe. In general, a pretty sweet sound scheme is in the client by default; You can download others via the link in the settings, however, as well as the themes.

Status changes are reported by pop-up windows, which surprised me with this: they are nice, of course, no doubt, but when they appear, the video codec is launched, which clearly loads the computer’s memory. Of course, my typewriter doesn’t care deeply, but there is a feeling that I’m not going to risk installing ICQ 6 on my home computer that remains in Kazan.

Banners are present in sufficient quantities. As always, there is a square at the bottom of the main window, in the message window at the bottom there is a wide banner ... And finally, we managed to observe B2U - advertising logos with a link that appear to the right of some messages directly during the dialogue. It’s difficult to understand whether they are contextual or not: I saw such a thing only once - when one of the contacts asked if I would go to such a club (an advertisement for an event appeared to the right of his message).

Any tweaks in the client are present, but I don’t really want to go there. In general, I realized that all unnecessary functionality, which suffers from the Soviet QIP division, is necessary only for those who have nothing more to do but to watch those who read your status message and catch the “invisible”. The illusion of control over someone that is given by third-party clients working on the ICQ protocol is meaningless and resembles a toy.

Tryam.
