Face recognition reaches 85% accuracy

LogicaCMG stated that it had tested its cameras that recognize faces, thus allowing it to find those wanted in a crowd.

However, the tests were limited, as the owners of public institutions are reluctant to lay out money for the technology, not counting the safety of their work.

LogicaCMG achieved 85% face recognition accuracy while checking its face recognition technology at an unquoted international airport, coordinating the information received with a database containing 1000 records.

Tim Best, director of identification solutions at LogicaCMG, said: “This is the first time that someone has achieved 85% face recognition accuracy right at the time of the shoot (live).”

The best results were achieved in the aisles, where people moved relatively calmly. In less favorable conditions, for example, in the stairwells, where people look under their feet, the recognition accuracy fell to 65%. The airport would like to observe 75% of successful recognitions. The basic idea is that those 20–40% of people not identified by the system were interrogated by customs officials.
