Microsoft has
officially confirmed that the final release of the free
Security Essentials antivirus will take place this morning, September 29, Pacific time, that is, at about 19.00-21.00 MSK. At this moment, the 4.7 MB distribution under Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 will be posted on the official website (link above), currently there is a plug for beta testers.
Antivirus development took almost a year, and limited beta testing
started in June. The number of program downloads from the official site was limited to 75,000, but the antivirus was sold through torrents.
Free antivirus should be a replacement for Windows Live OneCare paid service, closed in June 2009.

Manufacturers of commercial antivirus programs have already announced that they are not afraid of competition from Microsoft. As an example, they cite the free Windows Defender program to search for spyware, which has never become popular.
Some experts generally doubt that Microsoft is able to create at least some successful product in the field of computer security, here it has no experience at all.
