ION-based nettop photo report from the nVidia press briefing

image

In addition to the announcement of the netbook hp mini 311 , the briefings were also presented nettops on the ION platform, most of which are openly sold in the Russian retail. Acer Revo and ASRock ION-330 are already well known to us, so I will not dwell on them in detail, however, a completely new nettop model with an optional optical drive was announced.

Judging by the fact that I have not found photos of this nettop in the global network, we will consider this report exclusive. It is also worth noting that while the model is presented as an OEM product, since so far there has been no trademark willing to take it under its wing. According to representatives of nVidia, there are already quite a few people willing to sell this device, and it will be on sale sometime in November. Interestingly, under whose brand it will fall on the shelves ...

OEM nettop

I really do not know how to call this device yet, so I’ll confine myself to a brief “OEM-nettop”. Its main and key chip is an optional optical drive that is connected via USB using a specific bridge. As an optical drive can act as a BD-drive, and a standard DVD-RW. Instead of HDMI, mini-HDMI is used, apparently in order to save space.

If you don’t need a drive, you can install two 2.5 ”hard drives in this place, although they will also be connected via USB, which cannot have a positive effect on performance. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a hard drive case, so believe in the word.

image

The device has two air vent holes, from the top and side ends. There are no ventilation holes on the side walls, so the device can operate in the “recumbent” mode without damage to the cooling system.

image

The front panel cap hides the e-sata port, USB port, audio jacks and a standard SD reader. The white socket located above the cap is an unmarked power button ... Apparently resellers will be able to design the button themselves. At first I almost broke off this button, because hoping to find a couple more of some hidden ports ...

WEXLER VisION

image

I have already reviewed this device in the review of nettops , and it is distributed under a huge number of brands (Lenovo, Pegatron, Emtec). BTK brought him to Russia as an official distributor. The free sale of these nettops will begin in St. Petersburg literally in the coming days, according to the assurances of the product manager of BTK Vadim Bashkurov. Moscow resellers have so far met the product cool, so there is no information on the timing of the product in Moscow retail.

image

VisION has no HDMI port, due to its positioning as a workstation with a good graphics subsystem. By the way, the internal volume of the device is 0.5 l, and the VESA mount for the monitor is included.

image

On the box there is a proud inscription “Made in Russia”. And they don’t lie ... The box itself is really made in Russia. =)

image

Vadim is trying to detach the stand in order to show the ability of the nettop to work in a horizontal position.

He also said that the basic equipment with FreeDOS will cost 9990r , but it can only be found in St. Petersburg. If the price turns out to be real, then VisION claims to be the cheapest nettop on ION. Version with Vista Home Premium with the ability to upgrade to Windows 7 will cost around 11500r .

Upd: It turned out that 11990r is a version with Windows Vista Starter, and a version with Premium will cost 17200r . I apologize for the misinformation ...
In Moscow, devices can already be found in stores 10 Dimension .

Acer aspire revo

image

Well, about this comrade, we all know. He first appeared in the Russian retail, and at the moment Revo is the reference nettop for comparing ION-based products.

ASRock ION-330

image

And we saw it too, nothing new.

USN NEONix.NET

image

A completely incomprehensible name is a product of the USN company, inside which the usual Zotac ION is hidden. You can find it out just by looking at the back panel of the device.

image

Details can be found on the USN off-site , and judging by the price, I was quick to assign Vision to the laurels of the cheapest nettop.

EZCool Noname-Sample

image

Nvidia engineers assembled this nettop based on the Zotac board and on the EZCool W-100 chassis, which I reviewed earlier . In reality, it seemed huge to me, compared to the rest of miniature nettops.

image

image

image

I would still hang it on the wall and install an optional 7 "touch screen. For the rest of the tasks, in my opinion, the nettop turns out to be too big ... and you can't hang it with a monitor.

Promotional Package Contents

And finally - as promised, the contents of promotional packages.

image

1) A demo CD with a presentation of the possibilities of Windows 7 with graphics from nVidia (by the way)
2) Laminated contour photo of the ION promotional platform, in pico-ITX size (I will use it as a bookmark)
3) Branded pen
4) Company notebook
5) Corporate holographic (or stereographic, I do not understand much about them) calendar

But in general, that's all. Full presentation in pdf lay out on the 5th of October.
