A network of gas stations for electric cars will appear in the USA

Currently, one of the main problems for the wide distribution of electric vehicles is the lack of a developed network of electric gas stations. In the United States intend to solve this problem. SolarCity, together with Rabobank, with the support of Tesla Motors CEO, Elon Musk, announced that it is building a corridor of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles.

A corridor of electric stations will be located along the 101st highway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. To date, 4 stations have been installed: in Salinas, Atascadero, Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo. The fifth station will be built in Golet in mid-October 2009. The charging stations located in Salinas, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo operate from a common electrical grid, the station in Santa Maria is equipped with a solar panel (30 kW).


Each station includes a quick charger with a voltage of 240 V and a current of 70 A. It can fully charge the Tesla Roadster electric car in about 3.5 hours. Unfortunately, so far, the fast-charging stations are designed only for charging Tesla Roadster electric vehicles, but SolarCity intends to equip the fast-charging devices with universal forks as soon as they appear (in about six months).
