Phoenix taught laptops to load Windows in 11 seconds

The American company Phoenix demonstrated loading Windows 7 on a laptop in 11 seconds. This was achieved primarily by upgrading the outdated BIOS interface, writes the Laptopmag blog.

Usually, when you turn on the computer, the first thing to do is load the BIOS program written on a special chip (Basic Input-Output System). This program checks the health of all components of the computer and sets the parameters for their further work.

Externally, this process looks like a black screen with incomprehensible ordinary user inscriptions. Only then does the loading of the operating system itself begin.

Steve Jones, a senior researcher at Phoenix, told PCMag that the system must perform several billion operations to complete the BIOS. The company has significantly reduced this number and optimized the BIOS code for the Intel mobile platform with CULV (Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage) processors. For this, Phoenix used the modern UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) interface.

As a result, the time of loading and executing the new BIOS is about a second, after which control is transferred to the Windows 7 operating system. The process of loading this OS is also significantly optimized by Microsoft.

Using a high-speed SSD (Phoenix Drive), Phoenix was able to achieve a full operating system load on a Lenovo ThinkPad T400s laptop in just 11 seconds. LaptopMag writes that with a regular BIOS, full booting of Windows 7 on a computer of a similar configuration takes at least 45 seconds.
