Taba.ru and Ning.com - a review of two interesting animals
Today I read on Lenta.ru (link to the news lenta.ru/news/2009/09/23/tabaru ) an article about a new for Russia service - social networking designer Taba.ru. But I want to talk not about him, but about the outlined, according to the developers, the development trend of social networks. They argue that social networks are supposedly evolving towards the formation of niche thematic communities, the creation of interest groups, and the filling of questionnaires, the search for classmates and work colleagues is sidelined. Are such loud statements justified?
In about half a year, more than 3,900 networks were created with the help of the Taba.ru constructor (they display information on the site). Is it a lot? It is hard to say. But when I looked at the project itself, it became a little clear where the developers are charged with optimism. The fact is that Taba.ru is, in fact, the Russian equivalent of the foreign project Ning.com.
If you dig a little deeper, then on the Internet you can find almost verbatim statements of two years ago Ning developers about the development of social networks abroad. Then in 2007, Ning.com just got out of the closed beta test and similar statements also seemed very controversial. The project itself appeared in 2005 and by the official opening - in October 2007 - with the help of the designer Ning.com, 30 thousand social networks were created, which are not that big compared to giants like Facebook. However, it is now possible to speak with confidence about the dynamics of the project. In May 2008, the project has already acquired 230 thousand networks, and today, according to official data, there are already 1.5 million networks ...
Actually, why all these arguments ... I want to know your opinion. Do you think it is possible today to talk about the evolution of social networks and does the Russian project Taba.ru have any development prospects?
It seems to me personally that the movement towards the thematic communities has always been, just now more attention is paid to this. And the fact that the same constructor should have appeared sooner or later in the Runet is, of course, a fact! In general, let's see how Taba.ru will achieve the same success.
