Even as a child I had a dream to have a bunch of cartridges for my Sega and Dendy in order to replay all the games. Now it is possible not only that. Unfortunately, many consoles did not get into the territory of Russia. Under the cat are descriptions of emulators Dendy, Sega, SNes, Mame and links to emulators of the other more or less well-known consoles.
NES / Famicom / Dendy

For the game, I use the
Mednafen multisystem emulator and the frontend to it -
MFE . There are almost all the necessary settings, not enough netplaya and pulsaudio (if you select alsa, then everything works fine)

The keys are configured directly from the game itself, there are no problems with the support of the joypad. You can even use the mouse as a light gun. Load / Save to one of 10 slots, as well as rewind (looks pretty funny) are present.

Sega Mega Drive / Genesis

To emulate this equally popular console, use
Gens / GS.

There are versions only for 32-bit systems, compilation for 64 is not possible, but the 32-bit version works fine on a 64-bit system.

There are small problems when setting up the cross on one of the gamepads, and I can not figure out how to set the resolution in a full screen mode different from VGA. When you open a rum automatically unpacks it and provides a choice from different versions of the same rum.
Super Nintendo Entertainment System / Super Nintendo / Super NES / SNES

This console did not see much popularity in Russia, which is a pity. Probably she was simply not pirated by us. In terms of sound and graphics, this console furnishes Sega. Many games were created immediately under both consoles, and it's a pleasure to re-enter them on SNES. What is only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV - Turtles in Time - a completely new game. I emulate this console using
snes9x-gtk

For me, snes9x-gtk is the ideal emulator. The correct exit from the full-screen mode, a bunch of filters, support for PulseAudio, gamepads, customizable shotkats ... Only there is no auto-unarchiving of the rum when choosing, but these are trifles.

MAME / Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator / Neo-Geo / HeapAll

MAME opened me a new world of great games. Especially the Metal Slug series is a masterpiece! Here we have two ways
xmame and
gxmame for it or
sdlmame and
qmc2, respectively. Xmame is already morally obsolete (the latest version is from 17 Feb 2006), but it has a convenient frontend, graphic filters and rapidfire on it. SDLMame is still evolving.

Nintendo 64

Here we have almost no choice. There is
Mupen64 , abandoned in 2005, and there is its fork
Mupen64Plus , which is being developed now.

Audio, video and controllers are implemented as separate plug-ins.

Mario on the emule runs briskly, fulspid, but sometimes bugs with textures skip. Perhaps this is due to the standard video plugin - others have not tried. The control on default plug-ins was not configured by me, so I advise you to compile blight_input with svn. The gamepad at this console is quite interesting and unusual, so playing on PS2 like pads is not very convenient.
Game Boy [Color / Advance]

Here I advise all the same
Mednafen and frontend to it -
MFE . There is also
VirtualBoy Advance , but in it, personally for me, the game was going at a speed of more than 200%, but I did not find how to limit it.

Sony PlayStation

Of course, there is a Linux version of
ePSXe , but I prefer the Win version. Only in Win there is a version 1.7.0. It has a convenient built-in setting of the gamepad and other amenities of the new version.

Sound, video, CD, Netplay, as in Mupen64 implemented as plug-ins. Supports booting from ISO or MDF images. To run the games, in addition to the plugins themselves, a bios of this console is required.

PCSX2Gamepads
I use two gamepads myself (when friends come, we often play)

a bit awkward in games for Sega, where the x, y, z buttons are used, but ideal for the rest.
Thematic sites
There are a lot of them, they are elementary, but my choice is
emu-land . I recommend to go there in the
gamebit section, an interesting magazine, thanks to him I remembered a bunch of games.
PS
Soon I will add descriptions of Dreamcast, GameCube, Nintendo DS emulsions and some more. Good luck to you emulation!
