V8 out of competition

The editors of Computerworld published the results of their own testing of browsers under Windows XP using the SunSpider JavaScript test. With the V8 script engine, Chrome 3.0 ran tests two and a half times faster than Firefox, five times faster than Opera 10 and nine times faster than IE8. Honestly, such a huge difference in speed is shocking.

Compared with Chrome 3.0 can only Safari 4.0, which gave him only 30%, as well as the second version of "Chrome" (-25%). The rest is far behind. Even Firefox 3.5 showed a two and a half times worse result.

The test results for Linux show the same absolute dominance of Chromium over all competitors.

Benchmarking of scripting engines in browsers has already become something like a “megapixel race” in digital cameras, that is, the most important parameter by which ordinary people used to measure “browser speed”, although in real life this is not the only and not the main performance parameter. For example, Microsoft does not recognize the results of such tests and has published its testing methodology based on measuring the rendering speed of the 25 largest sites. There, all browsers showed similar results, but IE8 still became a leader, albeit with a small margin (tests were conducted in March, before the release of Firefox 3.5, Chrome 3.0 and Opera 10).
