Google Voice Search → Will other companies follow Google’s example?

Last week, Google announced the launch of a new service that allows you to find the number of the desired company using a voice request. The service, Google stresses, is based on a pilot project, which can be found here.

Google is not going to pay much attention to the service and does not plan to monetize it yet. However, voice search may soon become very popular. Companies like Nuance, V-Enable and Promptu are working on multi-model search engines, and mobile operators (for example, Verizon Wireless, offering a voice search service in conjunction with Medio Systems) are adopting them. The Verizon Wireless service allows subscribers to search for ringtones, games and other content using voice prompts, i.e. instead of scrolling through directories, the subscriber simply says the name of the game or ringtone. This search method greatly facilitates the interaction of the subscriber with the interface and allows you to implement a variety of scenarios for selling content.

Although voice recognition systems are far from perfect and there is still a lot of work to be done, the voice search system demonstrated by CTIA from V-Enable showed excellent results, despite the loud noise of the passing show and the tester's rather hoarse voice. Conclusion - do not underestimate the possibilities of voice interface.

Neither Google nor Microsoft are going to do this. Microsoft recently acquired the voice technology company TellMe for $ 800 million, which proves Microsoft’s confidence in the potential of voice search. It is likely that our soon expects a "battle" of Google and Microsoft for voice search users. Apparently, Yahoo plans to join the battle. Marco Boerries (Marco Boerries), senior vice president of Yahoo's Connected Life, told the Wall Street Journal recently: "We are confident that voice technology will play a very important role in the mobile industry."

For cellular operators, an interesting scheme of work can be the following - in response to a voice request from a subscriber, a text message arrives with the results. Such a model is not only convenient for the subscriber, but also allows you to insert advertising information into the message text, which will bring additional income to cellular operators.
