United Kingdom, transport

In the first post of the new blog “The Future is here,” we will talk about transport in the UK. The main part of the story will be about Manchester, since the author of these lines lives in it. So, transport - what's new?

Electronic tickets are the simplest and fastest way to buy a bus / train ticket in the UK - use the Internet. The purchased ticket will be emailed to you in PDF format. If you do not like paper tickets, you will be sent a text message to your mobile phone confirming your right of way. All you have to do is show the cell phone to the bus driver.

For passenger buses in the UK is very reverent attitude, on the roads specifically for them is allocated the third lane. The peak of respect for buses was the experiment to install automatic road pillars in Manchester, which allow buses to pass through, but which are brutally blocking cars. While not very good (video youtube, 1 minute 44 seconds):

Getting around the city in a bus costs a lot of money. At one end for a short distance from 50 to 150 rubles (1-3 pounds). A ticket for the week for travel on buses of one route - 350 rubles. High prices are due to private property (and not only in the field of public transport).

Attitude to cars. Oddly enough, many Sir Alexis, having more than one car in the family, prefer to get to work either on foot or by public transport. This is due to the eternal problems of traffic - without a car goes faster. There are also buses that have to be missed, to fight with pillars ...

Culture travel in Manchester buses - putting your feet on the seat opposite. I just can not understand this. But at the exit it is considered natural to say to the driver “Thanks” or “Cheers!” (The same, but more in English). In order for the bus to capture you at the bus stop - you need to wave your hand. If you don't, you won't go. The exit / entrance is not at the bus stops - it is categorically forbidden, not a single driver goes to this. Double-decker buses, famous English double-deckers, often go crowded. When climbing to the second floor it is necessary to be careful - the driver is always happy to provide the opportunity to quickly find himself on the first floor.

Trams in Manchester - one of the main modes of transport. They go only on four branches, tickets are purchased at stops in automatic kiosks and are not checked completely by anyone. In order to enter the car, you must press the button on the door. If you don't, the tram will leave without you. Of particular interest are the trams on Saturdays, when crowds of fans go to the Manchester United evening match. Everything passes peacefully, but the cars become shaking and singing, and the singing is quite tolerable and amicable. Holiday in one word.

Traffic lights in the UK are the slowest in Europe. The red light is on for a very long time, I wanted to cross the road, - press the button. But this is not enough, you must wait until the cars passing directly wait for turning cars. That is, the absence of yellow light is compensated by doubling the action of red - for passing and for turning cars.

Thank you for your attention, finally - a mystery. What is shown in the photo? Tips: in the UK snow is a rarity, all the photos in this topic somehow relate to transport.
