This topic was born after the next viewing of the article about cloud computing, in which the term "
clouds " is used, it seems, in any places where you can insert it. So, after another such article, it seemed to me that some people do not understand at all what the new buzzword “cloudy” means.
I must say that I myself sometimes go too far in the lead of fashion and sin using this term. For example, in my
first article on cloud computing, I myself sometimes inserted it without fully understanding its meaning in that context. Please do not repeat my mistakes.
I have one specific sentence for everyone: replace for yourself the term "cloudy" with the adjective "
removed ."
Cloud computing - remote computing - calculations that are performed on remote servers with all the advantages and disadvantages that follow from this.
Cloud platform - remote platform - a platform that allows you to run your applications on a remote server.
By the way, the clouds are not a “modern technological invention” or “a breakthrough in the industry” (I read about it somewhere). For example, hosting can already be easily called a “cloud platform” (web applications are running), and a remote database can be called a cloud platform (it is located on a remote server).
In addition, do not forget about the already well-established concepts of
SaaS, PaaS and IaaS , which many now begin to dump into one cloud heap, which, of course, is not necessary. A special request to the authors of op-ed articles: please feel the difference and do not confuse the reader.
Fashion, as they say, is a capricious lady. And if cloud concepts become fashionable now, it’s very important for us IT professionals to clearly understand what is behind them.
PS In general, it is a pity that there is no blog about cloud technologies :)
