Sales of music in RuNet fall for the third year

For the third year after the closure of the famous Allofmp3.com site, sales of music in RuNet continue to fall, Vedomosti reports, citing data from the research company iKS-Consulting.

The record year was 2006, when Runet’s online stores sold music files for $ 9 million, and with Allofmp3.com accounting for $ 30 million. Since then, the market has been falling at a catastrophic pace: in 2007, sales were $ 7.5 million , and in 2008 - only $ 3 million.

According to experts, the stagnation of the market is also related to changes in Russian legislation, which since 2008 has banned the collection of royalties through societies for collective management of rights. As a result, the shops had to either close or sign direct agreements with the copyright holders. Of course, many have closed, and the range of other scanty.

The Russians had no choice but to switch to iTunes and torrents.
