Yandex office

On the Internet, there are a lot of photos of world-wide offices, such as Google and other American mastodons, and let's say they have very creative offices,

but it was always interesting what kind of offices are owned by native IT companies, how our “Soviet people” work.

I accidentally saw pictures of the Yandex office on the Internet, and Yandex has something to be proud of, an equally creative office that evokes feelings of excitement and envy at the same time!

In a sense, this post will be an archive for 1,700 employees of the company, because soon they will all move to the building of the former Krasnaya Roza factory on Lev Tolstoy Street. There is a renovation in full swing, and in some of the finished premises those employees who did not have enough space on the Scooter were already accommodated. It is promised that by the end of autumn they will move to a new office.



So, it is worth turning from the Yauza embankment - it is immediately clear where Yandex is here. The entrance to the parking lot is guarded by two painted horses in full size.











Near the entrance to the building itself - bicycle parking. The day happened to be sunny, but not a single bike could be caught there. By the way, in Yandex there is no tradition to work from call to call. There is a “recommended time” when it is better to attend - from noon to six o'clock.







One of the special features of the office is the reception desk in the form of a search line. Above it, photos from the “family archive” of Yandex and several portal services — traffic jams, weather, as well as the requests that users are making at the moment — are projected onto the wall. Sometimes funny things come across.











To the right of the rack are three conversations. Partners of the company, candidates for interviews are brought there, internal meetings are also held there. These negotiations do not connect with the working area and the constant movement in them does not bother anyone. Each of their rooms has a conditional name. There is a tin table in the Pewter, in the Glass one there is a glass table, and in the largest Wooden one there is a table made of wood, respectively.























To the left of the rack there is a rack with the “guest” museum of Yandex. There is also a memorable piece of iron - the server from which the history of the portal began.











The building that Yandex has built has been empty for more than half a century. When the architectural bureau Atrium (Anton Nadtochy and Vera Butko) took it, it was decided to leave the flavor of the old factory. The bearing columns in the office are cast-iron, the stamp of the manufacturer is preserved on them. Brick walls, too, left without special cladding.











After repair and rebuilding of the factory building, an office of three and a half floors turned out. Practically only men work on the top floor in amazing silence - this is the patrimony of the system administrators and some of the developers.











On the second floor there are content service managers. There was also a library there recently, but Look At Me was no longer able to capture a collection of books and one of Yandex’s relics - the old Bible. Books were transported to a new building, and only furniture remained in the orphaned room. Sales managers, marketers, designers, advertisers and the “censorship department” live on the ground floor. There are mostly girl group.



























On the floors there are a few more conversations. The biggest is “Germany”. Usually these are two rooms with separate entrances. And when you need to hold an extended meeting, the "Berlin Wall" between them is removed.







And, of course, in Yandex there are many cozy corners where you can retire with a cup of coffee and a laptop - sofas, equipped smoking rooms. There used to be such a luxury as “anti-cigarette” - a space where non-smokers could spend a little brainstorming over a glass of juice. But with the extension had to abandon them.















On the lowest floor there is a dining room with a stage, a tennis table, a leather massage chair wiped out over many years. Food brought catering service. And, by the way, on a fine day, you can go outside and have lunch in the courtyard - on the patio.



















From the side opposite to the patio there is also a courtyard. In Yandex, some people call him “antipatio”, it’s green there, there are benches, you can air out and hide from your colleagues.
